The Courtyard Garden - Accessible Gite in Sourdeval

The Courtyard Garden is a carefully adapted, inclusive gite in the quiet town of Sourdeval in Normandy. Designed for disabled guests, carers, families and friends, it offers a practical, welcoming base where accessibility has been considered in detail.

The ground floor has step-free access throughout, with a bright entrance hall, accessible kitchen and dining area, comfortable lounge, an adapted bedroom and an ensuite wetroom. The bedroom includes a double electric profiling bed and ceiling track hoist, with clothes storage at wheelchair height. The wetroom has a walk-in shower, wheelchair-height basin, WC with handrails, raised toilet seat, commode chair and shower perching stool.

The lounge includes a contemporary sofa bed, manual reclining armchair, wall-mounted TV, books, games and high-fibre broadband. The kitchen is well equipped with a wheelchair-height oven, accessible sink and hob, coffee machine, air fryer, washing machine, dishwasher and fridge with small freezer. The dining area seats six.

Downstairs there is a large master bedroom with double bed, tea and coffee facilities and a refrigerator, plus a bathroom with bath, WC and wash hand basin. There is also a calming single bedroom designed with neurodiverse guests in mind, with soft muted decor, minimal furniture, TV/games console and noise-cancelling headphones.

Additional equipment includes a wakey-shakey alarm, weighted blanket, slide board, slide sheet, helping hand, Repose pressure-relieving mattress overlay, adapted cutlery and cup, food blender, communication cards, touch-sensitive bedside lamps, plug adapters, chargers and a power pack. Please note that hoisting is available over the bed only, and guests should bring their own sling.

Outside, the decked courtyard garden has tables and chairs for relaxed outdoor meals, plus a gravel area for registered guide and assistance dogs.

Sourdeval has level pavement routes into town, with bakeries, cafes, shops, a weekly market and two supermarkets nearby. The surrounding area is ideal for gentle days out, with lakes, forests and the medieval town of Domfront within easy reach. Ferry access is straightforward from Caen, Cherbourg, Le Havre, Dieppe and Calais.
