Le Prieuré was built in the 1830's as a summer residence for a clergyman. Today the house has been lovingly renovated and equipped with all modern comforts. It retains its old-world charm, with beautiful stone and tile floors, whilst being very comfortable to live in.
The house is in an idyllic setting in the midst of vineyards and nature, yet only a 20-minute walk away from the centre of Saint-Chinian and all amenities. The peaceful location makes this an ideal holiday home for unwinding and relaxing. Country walks start just outside the house, and you'll be invited for a private tour (and a wine tasting!) of the winery by the proprietor!
The accommodation is arranged over three floors of this L-shaped building, with living accommodation on the ground floor and bedrooms on the first and second floors.
The fenced grounds in front of the house feature a swimming pool (8 x 4mt x 1.2m deep, with an alarm). The outside living areas are furnished with patio furniture and sun loungers, allowing you to make the most of summer living. Plentiful parking is available at the back of the property.
Step through the front door into a large hallway which connects the rooms on the ground floor. To your right is a salon with sofa and chairs and from the salon a few steps lead to the TV room with sofa and armchairs, a flat-screen TV and a DVD player. At the opposite end of the hallway is a WC, and beyond that, a doorway leads to the dining room - a large room with windows on one side and French doors to the back of the house. The antique buffet holds tableware and the large marble topped dining table can seat up to 10.
Next to the dining room is the country-style kitchen which is dominated by the original fireplace which can be used for indoor BBQs. The kitchen is equipped with a Lacanche range cooker with gas burners and electric ovens, microwave oven, dishwasher, electric kettle, coffee maker and toaster, a larder fridge and separate freezer. The French doors at one end of the kitchen allow you to park your car outside for unloading your groceries.
French doors lead from the hallway to the courtyard and the garden beyond. The courtyard is shaded by two enormous plane trees, which date from when the house was built in the 1830's. To one side of the courtyard, in front of the former bread oven, is a large custom-built BBQ.
From the hallway, a traditional wood and tile staircase leads to the upper floors of the house, where the bedrooms and bathrooms are located. All bedrooms are floored with traditional terracotta tiles, and the bathrooms are finished with marble and travertine.
To the left of the staircase on the first floor is the master bedroom. This large bedroom overlooks both the courtyard at the front and the vineyards behind the house and is furnished with a double bed (180 x 200 cm) and a couch. The en-suite bathroom features a walk-in shower, bathtub, WC, and wash basin, and the large built-in cupboard has ample space for your clothes.
To the right of the staircase, a corridor leads to the other three bedrooms on this floor. The first bedroom is on your right and overlooks the vineyards at the back of the house. It is furnished with a king-size bed (1.8 x 2 mt). The bathroom for this bedroom is just across the hallway and features a sunken bathtub, WC, bidet, and wash basin.
The corner bedroom overlooks the vineyards and the back of the house and is furnished with a king-size bed (1.8 x 2 mt) and an antique armoire. The en-suite shower room features a shower cubicle, WC, and wash basin.
At the end of the hallway is a utility area where you find the washing machine and tumble dryer, along with iron and ironing board. From this area a few steps lead to the fourth bedroom on this floor, with views of the vineyards, a king-size bed (1.8 x 2m), built-in wardrobe and en-suite shower room.
On the second floor of the house is the fifth bedroom. It overlooks the courtyard at the front of the house and is furnished with two single beds and an antique armoire. The en-suite bathroom features a bathtub, WC, and wash basin.

Arriving by car will allow you to make the most of the surrounding area. On the A9 motorwa take exit 36, Beziers ouest. After the toll gates take the first exit on the roundabout onto the D64 in the direction of St Pons and Mazamet. At the next roundabout take the third exit onto the D612 in the direction of Saint-Pons. This road will take you to Saint-Chinian.
Le Prieure is located just outside the village of Saint-Chinian in the middle of the countryside and surrounded by vineyards, yet only a 20 minute walk into the village along the river Vernazobre. The location is great for walks in the countryside and for getting away from it all. The house is located on a wine estate and the winery next door produces very good wines.
