About This Property
Gîte de Rossignol — where the Occitane countryside meets a 17th-century château
Picture this: a narrow lane winding between sunflower fields, the silhouette of the Pyrenees rising blue and distant on the horizon, and at the end of the road, a honey-stone château that’s stood watch over this corner of Gascony since the 1600s. Tucked into its grounds, where the old stables once housed le Seigneur de Faudoas’s horses, Gîte de Rossignol now waits for you.
Step through the door and the transformation is immediate. Beneath your feet, cool stone gives way to sun-warmed oak; overhead, the original beams — chestnut and oak, centuries old — still carry the bones of the building’s working past. But everything else speaks of quiet indulgence: a bespoke spiral oak staircase curls upward like something from a fairytale, arched orangery windows pour golden light into a snug with its own bar, and a hanging egg chair in the reading nook practically begs you to disappear into a novel for an afternoon.
Upstairs, the real showstopper reveals itself — a vast L-shaped living space where warm brickwork and exposed beams frame views that stretch clean to the mountains. Roll out a yoga mat, curl up with coffee, or simply watch the light change over the fields below. This is a house built for slowing down.
The kitchen is where the days will really happen — big, bright, and made for gathering, with a wine fridge stocked and a welcome hamper of local food waiting on arrival. Four bedrooms, one on the ground floor with its own door straight out to the garden, mean everyone has their own quiet corner to retreat to, from the master suite to the bunk room built for kids or a group of friends.
And then, outside. A teak terrace for lazy breakfasts. A private wood-fired hot tub for evenings when the sky turns pink over the Pyrenees. The freedom to slip into the château’s own pool whenever the mood strikes. This is the kind of garden where a glass of wine at sunset becomes a ritual.
Beyond the gates, Gascony unfolds at its own unhurried pace. Walk ten minutes to Brignemont for dinner, or wander the purple-garlic markets of Cadours. Chase the scent of fresh croissants through Beaumont-de-Lomagne, browse the potters of Cox, or lose an afternoon in a bookshop café in medieval Sarrant. When the mood turns grander, Toulouse — La Ville Rose — is under an hour away, with the cathedrals of Auch and Albi, the UNESCO walls of Carcassonne, and the wild peaks of the Pyrenees all within easy reach for a day trip.
Hosts Mark and Rebekah Jamieson live right there at the château with their daughters, dogs, cats, and chickens — the kind of hosts who feel less like landlords and more like old friends who happen to live somewhere extraordinary. Their own restoration story has played out on screen, on Channel 4’s Château: DIY, since 2019.
This isn’t just a place to sleep. It’s a place to remember — the staircase you’ll photograph a dozen times, the sunset from the hot tub, the morning mist over sunflower fields. Come and see why guests keep coming back.
