Rose Cottage, a beautiful barn with private heated swimming pool

My husband and I have recently returned from a blissful eight night stay at Rose Cottage. Arriving in the evening and tired after a long drive down from Calais, we were absolutely delighted at the sight of the picturesque gite and its beautiful surroundings. Its character and decor was every bit “us” and the interior was impeccably clean and tidy. We appreciated the generous welcome pack that had been left for us by the housekeeper and included fresh produce, wine, beer and good quality toiletries in the bathroom. There were also fresh flowers on the little table. Very thoughtful indeed.

Seeing the magnificent, landscaped garden for the first time took our breath away and admittedly, brought a tear to my eye! It is truly one of the prettiest and most enchanting we had ever seen, with an abundance of flowering plants, trees, seemingly endless lawn and lovely terrace area. Of course, the icing on the cake is the wonderful pool which we enjoyed using almost every day, as we were fortunate to have gloriously hot weather throughout our stay. I must also mention the large rose bush next to the gite door which was in full bloom. It exuded the most wonderfully sweet fragrance that we could smell each time we walked past it.

St Romain en Charroux is a very peaceful village which appealed to us, but there are plenty of options for dining out and other amenities and activities which are within short driving distances. We visited the friendly and lively Irish Bar, Slainte, in nearby Champniers and among other restaurants, the excellent L’Auberge de l’Argentor in lovely Nanteuil En Vallee.

We had a superb holiday which was made all the more memorable by the outstanding service we received from the owner, Barbara, whose communication throughout was flawless and also the gite manager, Sharon, who was on hand to resolve any issues we may have had during our stay. Rose Cottage is one of those very special places that will remain in your heart and we would recommend it without any hesitation at all.

We were attracted to this cottage when we searched for somewhere to stay for our summer break and it certainly didn’t disappoint.

Located on the edge of a quiet village, this barn conversion is idilic.

The cosy living accommodation is so well appointed with a comfortable bed, lovely linen, ample clothes storage and a sofa area for relaxing.

The kitchen is very well equipped and the shower room more than functional. Everything was so clean!

We were delighted to find a well thought out welcome pack and goodies in the fridge on arrival.

The garden is so pretty with lots of seating and the pool perfect for cooling off in the heat.

There are some beautiful places to visit nearby and we found some very good restaurants offering excellent value lunches.

Communication with the owner was superb during the booking process and with the housekeeper during our stay. You could tell they really cared that we had a great experience.

This gite is the prefect place to relax and escape everyday life. It's set in a quiet village but close to amenities at Civray, Ruffec & Gencay to name a few. It's just 10mins drive to the wonderful monkey sanctuary La Vallees des Singes which is worth a visit! In the next village Champniers is a very friendly Irish bar, Slainte, that has something on each evening and you're made very welcome!

The gite is finished to a high standard and has everything you need to make your stay comfortable. It's impeccably clean and well presented and the welcome pack is a lovely touch.
Communication with the owners and the gite manager, Sharon, was second to none.
The pool & garden is the perfect place to relax, read a book and have a lovely chilled glass of Rose in the peace & quiet.
We highly recommend Rose Cottage and would not hesitate to return.
