Types of Gite

From short-stay accommodation for one to long-term rentals for large groups, there is a French gite to suit every traveller or holidaymaker.

Rural Gites

These are the most popular type of French gite and are the ones most people will stay at. A Rural Gite is generally rented by the week, but some owners will offer shorter stays as well. As its name implies, this gite is usually located in a rural setting, although some will be in or near small towns. Many Rural Gites will have their own pool, making them popular with families and anyone who intends to spend a lot of time at their rental property during the course of their holiday.

Camping Gites

These gites offer an outdoor experience and provide accommodation ranging from traditional tent camping to rustic chalets. These are great holidays for those who like to spend time outdoors and make good bases for activity holidays. Many Camping Gites will have swimming pools and other leisure activities on offer, making them perfect for families.

Bed and Breakfast Gites

Breakfast is always included in the price of these gites. These are similar to British bed and breakfasts but will generally be very small and consist of five guestrooms at most. These are a good option for short stays and stopovers, or for those who intend to do a lot of sightseeing and not spend the majority of their days at their accommodation. These also make good short-stay options for holidaymakers wanting to stay in several different locations during the course of their trip. It's possible to book ahead and plan an itinerary involving staying in a new Bed and Breakfast Gite every couple of nights.

Stopover Gites

This type of French gite is ideal for those travelling as large groups. Perfect for extended family holidays or large groups of friends, Stopover Gites can accommodate anywhere from 12 to 50 guests. These gites are great for large family gatherings or special celebrations. They are generally well-equipped and may be split into several self-contained units allowing flexible living arrangements.

Children's Gites

These are similar to children's summer camps and cater for a wide range of tastes and interests. Children can learn new skills or build on existing ones in a rural setting. Workshops teaching anything from acting, art and cookery to sports and outdoor activities take place throughout the child's stay, enabling them to gain new hobbies and make new friends.
