The Spa Towns of Lorraine

Lorraine

The region of Lorraine is often overlooked by British holidaymakers. Located in the north east of France, bordering Germany, Lorraine is an attractive region with lots to offer.

Famous for its wonderful spa towns, the area is ideal for a relaxing break. The region's countryside is largely untouched and when it comes to finding the perfect rustic gite Lorraine has plenty to choose from. For a laid-back holiday for two, book into a cosy gite and spend a day or two at a nearby spa town.

Each spa town has its own attractions and some have been providing treatments for many hundreds of years. The most recently opened spa is situated in the town of Amnnville where the spa's water is drawn from the Saint-Eloy spring almost one kilometre below ground. The water reaches the spa at a temperature of 411 C and has many health benefits.

The water is believed to be effective in relieving pain, preventing spasms and reducing inflammation. Many visitors also find it promotes relaxation and helps loosen stiff joints. The spa at Bains-les-Bains is known for its effectiveness in treating arthritis and other joint problems. Set in stunning surroundings, the spa here is one of the most popular in the region. The water here is also believed to be good for promoting general wellness and aiding relaxation.

The springs at nearby Plombiires-les-Bains are also known for their relaxing properties. The town has 27 natural springs which supply water at temperatures reaching 844 C. The waters here have antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory properties but many people visit for the relaxation therapies on offer.

The spa at Contrexxville has been in use since the 18th Century and is known for its nourishing waters. The town's water is so popular that there is now a well-known brand of water bottled here and sold all throughout France. The spa centre here is well-maintained and one of the finest in Lorraine. The town itself also has a casino and several other attractions, ensuring there is plenty to keep visitors entertained. The neighbouring town of Vittel, also known for its bottle water, has its own spa centre.

The Vittel spring water is used to treat a range of illnesses including rheumatism and gastric problems. Whether you are seeking treatment for a particular problem or simply want a relaxing experience, the region has plenty of resorts to choose from. Once you're found your perfect gite Lorraine is yours to explore.
