If you love France, food, wine, the sun and sea you will love to holiday in our house in Provence Cote d’Azur!
The village itself - around 1700 inhabitants in the height of the summer - still retains its local feel whilst offering over a dozen places to eat and drink, and provides good local shops and trades.
Nestled at the top of the Massif Des Maures, it benefits from very hot days and cooler evenings. A short 15-minute (16km) drive takes you to the nearest beach and the hustle of St Tropez; just over an hour will take you to Monaco, Marseille, the Verdon Gorges and anywhere in between.
The Nut House as it has become known is a 300-year-old stone village house probably built to house workers at the cork factories when production exploded in the 18th century. The house is our home - not a bare holiday let - and most things needed for your stay are included.
Having walls nearly 3 feet thick in places, the house is cool in summer and warm in winter, and now benefits from electric heating in all rooms as well as a cosy antique log burner in the lounge.
Wanting to preserve its character, we have retained the stone staircase and flooring which in places is uneven, so it may not be suitable for persons with impaired mobility. The stairs however are fitted with doors or gates on all floors for the safety of young children.
The cosy lounge with its wooden ceiling, beams and stone floor is entered directly from the street. It has comfortable seating for 5-6 people and includes a double sofa bed, an antique Godin stove for those late autumn and spring evenings, and a selection of books, board games and children’s toys. This is also where you will find toys, beds, parasols and towels for the beach!
The staircase leads to the kitchen/dining area with an extending table seating up to 8, an oven, hob, fridge/freezer, microwave, toaster, coffee-maker and washing machine along with plenty of crockery, cutlery and kitchen utensils.
On the top floor is the bedroom with two double beds and plenty of storage. Off the bedroom is the bathroom with toilet, shower and washbasin.
In total we can sleep 6 adults in 3 double beds and we supply a travel cot for babies.
We include bedding and towels for all beds, chargers for mobile phones, a hair dryer, ironing board and iron, TV (with over 200 Orange TV channels in many languages), dvd player, radio/cd player.
Feel free to bring your laptop, iPads etc and leads to connect to the TV to watch via the internet with our free wifi.
We operate a policy where basic toiletries, washing powder, washing up liquid etc are supplied; we just ask that you replace what you use! This means there is no need to bring anything with you if flying, to help reduce your luggage. We also aim to keep a stock of basic kitchen supplies, sauces and condiments for you when you arrive.
The same applies to the wine rack and beer in the fridge. Feel free to drink - just replace what you use.
For visitors with young children, we provide a travel cot, high chair, buggy, toys, games and books to keep them happy!
If you are a first-time or infrequent visitor to France, we offer a package to help you:-
* in-depth guide to arriving at the airport, collecting your hire car, driving, general information on the village and area, plus shopping and eating
* maps and phrase book.
* the loan of a GPS/SatNav before you leave home, to make your journey so much easier; local points of interest (supermarkets, beaches, parking at tourist locations, airports etc.) are pre-loaded
There are no charges for these service; all you pay is the postage to return the items on your return to the UK. They are offered subject to availability.
We also accept your four legged friends (Dogs & Cats) at The Nut House, we do not limit the numbers but it is only a small property so we leave the decision up to you on how many you bring. The house is perfect for Dogs on the hotter days of the year as the stone floors are always cool for them to lay and chill out away from the midday sun. We do not have a garden but within 3 minutes walk of the front door you are walking in the forests and mountains of the Massive du Maures with more miles of footpaths than you could ever walk. France has to be the most dog friendly country to visit with nearly every bar and restaurant happy to allow pets and to be honest the ones that don’t are beyond the price range of most of us.
