The “Jolly Woodman Inn” is a log cabin situated in the owners’ smallholding deep in rural Brittany. The nearest village of St Vran is a short drive from the accommodation and has a boulangerie providing the essential French bread and pastries! There is also a bar in St Vran.
The accommodation in detail:
The cabin sleeps two people.
There is one bedroom with a double bed.
The living area comprises a kitchen/diner and a comfortable lounge.
The kitchen is equipped with a gas hob and small integral oven at head height
There is a Microwave, cafetiere, kettle, fridge and freezer .
The seating area in kitchen/ diner comfortably accommodates 4 guests.
The lounge area has a TV with UK channels and WiFi is available throughout.
The bathroom has a bath, overhead shower, washbasin and WC.
Linen and towels are provided
The cabin is accessible for wheelchairs but there is a step up to the bath/shower.
Dogs are generally welcome. Please enquire at time of booking. Please note that there are animals on site, horses, goats, rabbits and chickens. Please keep your dog on a lead outside.
Smoking is not permitted inside the cabin.
We can offer a 20% discount on Brittany Ferries crossings (or 25% for travel booked by 16th October 2017!)
Parking on the driveway
The large garden ,which is unsecured, has a “swinging garden seat” and outdoor seating in several areas.
A BBQ is provided.
The owner has a lot of livestock. This includes chickens, goat and sheep. Fresh eggs are usually available to guests. If you enjoy riding there are also 2 horses that you are welcome to use with the consent of the owner.
A Washing machine is housed in an outbuilding
The owner is a professional chef and can provide meals on request.
A short drive takes you to the village of St Vran. Here there is a boulangerie for the essential French bread and pastries!
A little further away is Merdrignac where there are bars, restaurants and alos a supermarket. On the outskirts of Merdrignac is Lac de Landrouet. This lovely lake comes alive in the summer months with music festivals, car boot sales and also water sports. In the winter it is lovely for a leisurely stroll.
The north coast of Brittany is within easy distance. The nearest beach is the beautiful Plage de Morieux. Others worth visiting include Pleneuf-val-Andre, Erquy and St.Cast le Guildo.
Further inland this area of Brittany has numerous pretty villages and French “petites cites de caracteres”. These include Josselin with its stunning medieval chateau, doll museum and popular Saturday market.
Moncontour is also worth a visit with its cobbled streets and chateau high above the town.
For larger towns nearby Loudeac has many shops. A little further away is the lovely town of Pontivy.
Rennes can be reached in about one hour. It is the capital of Brittany. There are numerous shops and eating places centred around the lovely cobbled squares.
The world famous UNESCO Heritage Site at Mont St Michel is one of the most visited attractions in France. It is on an island separated from the mainland by a causeway. Always popular and it does get very busy in the summer season.
Brittany offers a wealth of varied landscapes - beautiful sandy beaches, deep forests and medieval towns.
Brittany is easily accessible from the UK via several Ferry Ports and is also served by flights from the UK to 4 French airports.
From spectacular beaches with rugged coastlines to vast sandy expanses, to peaceful woods and forests and the famous Nantes-Brest Canal, Brittany has all the makings of a perfect holiday.
The cuisine in the area includes crepes and galettes and of course the seafood! Mussels and oysters are available throughout the region, particularly in the summer months. Cider is produced here and local varieties are available in all supermarkets and restaurants.
During the summer numerous villages and town celebrate the "Pardon" which is predominantly a religious thanksgiving but is always followed by a celebratory meal (with a drink or two!) and Breton dancing.
