The best beaches in Corsica

The French island of Corsica has some of the best beaches in Europe. Located in the Mediterranean Sea, closer to Italy than France, Corsica is a sun-seeker's paradise.

With miles of golden sand and clear blue waters, it's the perfect destination for a week or two of relaxation. For a true beach holiday; stay in one of the many gites in Corsica within easy walking distance of the coast. Here are some of the island's best beaches:

Plage de Saleccia The Plage de Saleccia is located in the north west of the island and stretches for half a mile. The beach is made up of dazzling white sand and backs on to lush pine woods. The sand gently slopes into the sea so it's a great spot for swimmers. The beach gets busy in the summer months with locals and tourists but its size means there's always a quiet spot to be found. The magnificent beach has are no facilities so pack an umbrella, a picnic and plenty of water.

Calvi Calvi's main beach is a great spot for families with children. The sand shelves gently into the sea providing easy access to the water. There are water sports and activities on offer and the surrounding area has plenty of restaurants and cafes. Sun loungers and parasols are available for hire on the beach, meaning you can lie back and soak up the sun in comfort. The beach does get busy in high season but it's a great day out for the whole family.

Cupabia In the south west of Corsica, Cupabia is another fairly undeveloped beach in stunning surroundings. The golden sand and crystal clear sea make this a popular destination with Corsicans and visitors. It's not unusual to see cows from nearby farms wander onto the beach which provides a great photo opportunity! There is limited parking at the beach so arrive early to ensure you get a space. Cupabia has a beach cafe selling food and drink but other than that, it's a very quiet and peaceful area.

Lozari This beautiful white sand beach is the perfect spot for rest and relaxation. It's great for those who just want a chilled out day at the beach. A lot of the gites in Corsica are within easy reach of Lozari, which is located in the north west of the island. Definitely worth a visit, the beach gets busy in high season but there's plenty of space for all. There is a small cafe on the beach and you'll find water sports on offer in the summer months.
