Owners: Free Translation into French, Dutch, German and Spanish

Hi Owners! We hope you have all had a great season.

We are constantly innovating at Gites.co.uk and we'd like to let you know that we are now offering FREE translations of your listings into four languages: French, Dutch, German and Spanish.

There are many holidaymakers from across Europe looking to rent gites and villas in France, and we wanted to make it easier for you to access this market. Human translations obviously would incur a significant cost, so we researched automated translation solutions, and settled on using Yandex. Our tests show that it produces the best automated translations, and could be integrated into our system to provide a fully automated solution.

We picked French, Dutch, German and Spanish languages because we feel that these offer the best opportunity to increase rentals to guests from across Europe. 

The system is now live and, unless you already had translations of your listing, the new automated translation are live. You can see the result by going to your listing and then changing the language drop-down menu in the top right hand side of the screen. In time, Google will pick up on these translated listing and deliver traffic from other countries. (We already get some traffic from outside of the UK.)

The translation service is enabled by default, but if for any reason you would prefer not to have them active, you can just login to your account, edit your listing, and un-tick the checkbox for each language. Then you can simply delete the text in each language.

If you update your listing, there is no need to do anything - our system will update your translation to reflect any changes, usually within 24 hours.

And of course, if you want to provide your own translations, you can disable the automated option and enter your own text. Simple!

How does the service work?

We use an online translation service called Yandex which our tests showed provided the best result. You can see for yourself by visiting your listing and selecting an alternative language.

Are the translations any good?

No automated translation is perfect, but our research shows that the results are acceptable and certainly enough to get the meaning across. 

How do I enable it?

Unless you already had translations, we have enabled it automatically, and your listing should now be translated. You can enable none, all, or just a selection of languages.

What if I already had a translated listing?

If your listing was already translated we disabled the automatic translation so that your wording wasn't overwritten.

What happens if I update my listing?

When you make a change to your listing, the automated system will usually update your translations within 24 hours.
