Located between the Marais Poitevin known as the Green Venice and the forest, not too far from La Rochelle, our gite, very comfortable for 4 people, is located in the peaceful setting of a small south Vendée Hamlet.
The cottage, awarded 3 epis and 3 stars for comfort and charm, is situated in the quiet village of St Michel le Cloucq, 5 kms from Fontenay le Comte, 50 kms from La Rochelle and the beaches of the Atlantic. The ideal base for exploring and enjoying the Vendee Region.
A rustic cottage fully restored to its original appearance, with exposed stone walls, wooden beams and wooden floor and tiled ground floor. It is furnished with antique French country style comfortable furniture.
Ground floor : a large living room with a fireplace, a fully fitted modern kitchen, bathroom and separate WC. Utility room. One double bedroom with en suite shower room. (bed 1.60 mt wide)
Upstairs : a double bedroom with one 1.40 mt wide bed, one mezzanine bedroom with two single beds, each 1.20 mt wide.

To enhance comfort for a restful and enjoyable stay, there are a 500 square meters private garden, a stone patio with garden furniture, a large outdoor roofed dining area with rustic furniture and a purpose built chimney-barbecue.
Bathroom towels, house linen, and bed linen is provided, the beds are made prior to arrival.
The gîte is open all year round.

The cottage is about an hour away from Nantes, La Rochelle and Poitiers airports.. Nantes is served by Ryanair flights from Leeds Bardford and East Midlands.
La Rochelle is served by Ryanair flights from London Stansted , Dublin and Cork. Jet 2 fly to La Rochelle from Leeds Bradford and Edinburgh.
The cottage is also convenient for self drive customers driving from either the short channel crossings or by the overnight Brittany Ferries Portsmouth to St Malo route which is ideal.

Only 50 km from the renowned sailing part and beautiful city of La Rochelle and the beaches of the Atlantic.
The islands of Ré, Aix or Oléron are just off the coast. Few kilometers away there is Le Marais Poitevin, also known as the Green Venice, with its green canals for idyllic boating and fishing.
The river Vendee ideal for fishing is less than 5 km away.
Approx an hour away is Futuroscope, the science and technology theme park near Poitiers The Puy du Fou historic theme park with its day attractions, the summer evening concerts and displays is within 60 km.
There are several good restaurants within a reasonable distance and the owners will be happy to give you a small taste of some of the regional specialities here.
The village is on the edge of a large forest and there are lots of places to walk and cycle. Less than 5 kms from the house is the River Vendée where you can fish and there is good fishing and boating on the canals of Le Marais Poitevin (12 kms). Lac de Chassenon has a beach with supervised swimming.
Fontenay le Comte (5 kms) has good shopping, supermarkets, restaurants and a weekly market.
The Vendee apart from its beauty, is filled with history and fine architecture, notably the Abbaye de Maillezais and the Abbaye Royale in Nieul. Niort (30 kms), set on the River Sèvre, has a castle built by Henry Plantagenet and Richard the Lionheart and some lovely old houses around Rue St-Pierre, as well as an attractive art museum.
