Our stay at La Rivaudiere was very relaxing and peaceful. The house is situated amongst farms and fields. The nearest village, Vasles, has a good Spar and a great boulangerie providing fresh bread and croissants every day.
The house is equipped for a relaxed stay. The kitchen is large enough for a busy family lunch. The dining table could easily accommodate 8 or 10 people. There are also dining tables outside, under the tree in the garden and by the fantastic barbecue, as well as seating on the patio just by the house.
The pool is clean and large enough for some fun splashing around, if not for doing lengths. The patio around the pool is great for just lounging around, listening to the birds and the trees nearby. The garden is lovely and well maintained. We enjoyed the garden in the afternoons. There is also a pétanque area, which is nicely done.
The games barn is large and has some welcome activities to play during a rainy day. There are bicycles available but we had problems with the gears and the brakes, so maybe a service is required. We could also only find one bike helmet.
The accommodation is comfortable and easy to get used to. The bedrooms are airy and light, the bathrooms have a few little quirks (wobbly fittings, mysterious flush) but not serious enough to be a problem.
The living space is really comfortable, airy and light, and a pleasure to relax in. There’s lots of books and games and a play area on the mezzanine, although the guard rail up there was a little wobbly.
We really enjoyed our stay at La Rivaudiere and the owner, Richard, was friendly and quick to respond to requests and queries. We came back relaxed and refreshed after a week in this peaceful and quiet part of the country.

Thank you Angela , we love to sit around the table for Christmas lunch watching the snow falling outside with the logs crackling in the grate helping keep us toastie.
We've just returned from a nearly 5week blissful stay at La Rivaudiere. The Villa & gardens are beautiful & so well equipped. Richard is a fantastic host and has thought of everything from the lovely welcome pack to every pool toy & kitchen utensils you could possibly want. I'm only sorry the site doesn't allow me upload the pictures of the garden and beautiful sunsets. It is a rural location Parthenay,Poitiers, are the nearest big towns 20/35mins away by car. Les Forges & Vasels ae only about 5mins both have a bar with food. Pizza van comes on a Mon to Vasels also. Going out for meals you have to drive but we always wanted to come back and enjoy a drink at the villa after anyway & enjoyed evenings in with playing pool & darts in the barn. Or looking at the stars from the patio or chilling watching TV. Satellite has plenty of English channels. You could collect a Chinese or BBQ but its lovely unwinding in the French countryside. The pool was perfect and had a Lavender pathway to it with humming bees and butterflies. The flowers, trees, rosemary & mint florish in the garden and all fenced in so our Cavapoo had the time of his life and found no way to escape. The shutters are now a lovely light blue the pics here do not do it justice ???? fab defo recommend, Sam & Adam do weekly clean linen change pool & garden and are so lovely too.
Thank you Sue for your lovely review , I have downloaded your beautiful collages to my site . It's good to be able to post pictures from guests as they relax and enjoy my Gite during their holiday .
This was our first holiday in France for three years due to covid restrictions. There were great expectations and this property lived up to all of them.It has all the recreation facilities needed and a lovely pool to relax in after sightseeing in France. The Gite is situated in the countryside ,has lovely views and is very peaceful. We took advantage of some lovely local walks coming across horses and their owners in the adjacent fields. We spent days out going to nearby Parthenay, Poitiers and Puy du Foy.
Richard the owner has thought of everything for a comfortable stay, even a well received welcome food pack so no shopping required on arrival. We will definitely be going back.Thankyou Richard and the team.
This was a well anticipated holiday after three years due Covid restrictions. Richard provided excellent directions and a welcome pack so no need to shop on arrival. The property is beautifully situated in the peaceful countryside surrounded by fields. The Gite is spacious and has plenty of activities to take part in.We enjoyed the pool most days.It is well situated for days out to Parthenay,Poitiers,Sabledeloonne and the theme parks Futuroscope and Puy Du Foy.
The owner Richard could have not been more accommodating and the property is very well maintained. We had a very relaxing get away from it all holiday and will definitely be returning. Thankyou Richard and to your team.
Great news Brian that the Gite lived up to your expectations after such a lengthy wait and hopefully we are now returning to more normal times and your next visit will not take such a long time as we would love to have you back.
Richards Gite is situated in a lovely and peaceful location, but only 5 minutes from Vasles, which has a well stocked spa, boulangerie, butcher, and a pleasant bar/restaurant.
The kitchen is very well appointed, with everything you need. The pool is very refreshing when it’s hot. Plenty of games available. Although we were just happy to relax with our books. We had a day trip to Ile D’Re, which was lovely. Parthenay was also interesting, with large supermarkets.
Richard was always very prompt to reply to any questions, and very pleasant to deal with. I would recommend a visit
Happy you enjoyed your holiday Denise & felt refreshed after a dip in the pool , September can be just as hot as August which is why this lovely unspoilt area of France is so popular with couples out of season & the Ile D' Re on the Atlantic coast is one of my favourite places to visit for a day out .
We found La Rivaudiere to be a terrific gite with everything you need and more. Plenty of room inside for everyone to have their own space and the external area is beyond fabulous. We particularly loved the pool and the boules court gave us much enjoyment. We found it super peaceful with just the sound of cockerels crowing in the distance and the llamas in the next field letting out an occasional hum to remind us they were there to go and talk to. Richard was so easy to deal with and super fast to reply to all communication. It was also nice to arrive to the welcome goodies, a very thoughtful touch. The worst thing? Having to leave and go back to reality.
Thanks Fiona , we aim to please but not forgetting my added little helpers the cockerels and the 11amas , helping escape reality .
We had a lovely week here and we were met with a nice welcome pack on arrival.Accommodation perfect and the pool like an oasis.
Plenty of different games including a full pétanque area.
Nice and away in the countryside for full relaxation, yet Pathenay and Poitiers nit too far away for some culture and markets.
Can’t fault it and recommend to anyone.
So good to know that you enjoyed the welcome pack Tim , we try to provide a comprehensive but varied choice to tide guests over for the first breakfast, great that you managed to make full use of games plus pool is handy in a heatwave, finally you have summed up our location perfectly in the countryside yet towns nearby with supermarkets
We had a fantastic week here relaxing and enjoying the pool and the beautiful garden. There were so many well-cared-for plants and flowers which really made it feel like a home. The kitchen was well equipped and although the house was decorated in a more traditional style, it had a good layout and lots of space. The playbarn was a real highlight - the kids loved the darts, table tennis etc. The pool toys were a really thoughtful extra as well. The location is really rural and quite a drive from many of the local highlights, but that just meant that we stayed in the gite relaxing instead! Vasles, the nearest village, is really charming and the Spar shop is well stocked alongside the bakery and the weekly market.
So glad you enjoyed the garden Philippa , we love to relax at dusk sitting by the firepit listening to the frogs
Spent a fantastic two weeks at this lovely typically French gite with family (4 adults, 2 kids in total). The property was ample for our party size and was well stocked with all the useful items expected such as a dishwasher, and desk fans. It was over 30°C for the duration of the holiday so having the desk fans as well as the window shutters ensured that the property remained cool at night. The fenced in pool area was fantastic and was certainly well used in the sunshine. The garden area is well maintained and included fresh herbs that we utilised when BBQing at the night. The Pétanque court was well used as was the games barn providing much fun for all.
The village of Vasles is only 5 mins away by car (15mins by push bike) and has a fantastic butcher and baker. The restaurant Le Zinc was excellent value for money and definitely worth a visit. We used the large supermarkets in Partheney for the big shop but the Spar in the village is very well stocked.
Communication with the owner Richard was great throughout and always available to answer any queries we had.
Overall, a great property in a great area of France. I would highly recommend visiting here.
Hi Scott, thanks for your review and glad you managed to stay cool at night during the exceptional heatwave that we had in France this summer .
