La Grange

Beschrijving

La Grange, translated, means the barn, which is exactly what it originally was. It has been totally renovated with three en suite bedrooms upstairs and a large country kitchen with a lounge/diner downstairs. The kitchen is equipped with plenty of crockery, glasses, pots and pans, enough for everybody who comes to stay. From the kitchen window one has fantastic views over open farmland and woods to Ciel, our nearest village where there is a boulangerie, small restaurant, hairdresser and first class butcher. His Charolais steaks are to die for!! The garden of the gite is laid to lawn and is fenced and gated making it secure for children and/or animals. An octagonal covered dining area is available and in the summer, this is outside dining central. You can sit there all day just chilling and taking in the same view as that from the kitchen and jumping onto the pool to cool down from time to time.. This is a perfect spot to watch the beautiful sunsets we have here. The nearest small town is Verdun sue le Doubs about 10 minutes away where you can fine a couple of bars and small restaurants, a small supermarket, bank with 24/7 ATM, pharmacie, garage and a couple of boulangeries. Verdun is the confluence of three rivers, Le Doubs, Le Petit Dooubs and La Saône, a fisherman's paradise. Nearest larger town is Chalon sur Saône about 20 car ride down the road. Plenty of restaurants, bars, independant shops and historical buildings. There is a cathedral on Place St Vincent where on a Friday and Sunday morning a fairly large market takes place. It has a lovely ambiance and is the place to go for a glass of something cold and watch the world go by in any of the bars and restaurants surrounding it. The gite is central to Dijon, Lyon, Dole, the birthplace of Louis Pasteur, Louhans, Tournus and even Switzerland and Italy for those who like a longer drive.
