It’s been brought to our attention that many people are complaining about recent changes on HomeAway and Owners Direct. There has been a flurry of critical reviews at https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/www.ownersdirect.co.uk

From chatting to owners listed on Gites.co.uk it seems that most just want an introduction to a guest, from where the booking arrangements can be handled directly with no interference from the listings web site.

This has been our philosophy at Gites.co.uk since the beginning. We don’t want to get involved in the details of the booking, or provide payment services: It is your customer, not ours!

It appears that Owners Direct and HomeAway are receiving so many complaints because they are trying to muscle in on this relationship by encouraging owners to use the Owners Direct billing system. To add to this, they are also intending to charge guests an additional fee of around 6% on the booking! Understandably, owners are concerned.
