Le Recoux, Mouzens. Commune of Saint Cyprien and Coux-et-Bigaroque.
This little house is over 200 years old. It was a ruin that was returned to a habitable state in 1990. Over the years it has been lovingly renovated and updated. The walls and archways are all local stone, in some places half of a meter thick. Floors are also typical stone (at one time all homes in this area had bare earth floors and plumbing was not in every house until the 1960s!). It is important that these homes are maintained with local materials installed by special artisans because the stone must "breathe" and air circulate. This way, a home will stand for hundreds of years. The hamlet of Le Recoux is very historical, as well. At one time an abbey was housed here--now a ruin in the forest. If you walk up through the hamlet, you feel as through are you traveling through medieval times; don't miss the original bread oven in the center. At one time, the hamlet served as a commune, all the homes connected and participating to survive. At 7am each morning you can faintly hear the church bell from the small chapel in the Mouzens bourg, dating back to the 11th century!
