Moulin de Brisseaux is a lovingly restored 200-year-old converted windmill, which sits in a gorgeous, rural location in the Lot et Garonne countryside. It is surrounded by fields and vineyards with a view towards Chateau Theobon. Original features have been retained with a mix of modern convenience to create a romantic, cosy haven with plenty of home comforts.
The mill is set at the end of a cul-de-sac or impasse, a 5-minute walk from the small village of Loubes-Bernac. Here you will find a shop, for your essentials, like morning croissants. There is a locally renowned restaurant and a post office. Within half an hours drive there are several large supermarkets on the outskirts of the nearby towns. Within the same drive there is also an abundance of places to visit including Bergerac, famous for Cyrano de Bergerac, Duras and Monbazillac. The popular bastide town of Eymet is another place to visit. In July and August, they host colourful evening markets and have some lovely restaurants. Château des Vigiers, a fantastic 27 hole golf course, is also close by. A bit further away you’ll find Saint Emilion surrounded by vineyards and winehouses. There are opportunities to sample the wines and explore the catacombs beneath the village. It is the perfect base for exploring all that the area has to offer or of course relaxing during your honeymoon!
Guests who stayed in 2020 described the windmill as "a romantic and intimate gem and a cozy cocoon, that allowed them to recharge their batteries." Others said, "they passed an excellent holiday at the windmill, they appreciated the calm of the countryside, the pretty view of the chateau and the facilities at the windmill including the pool that was excellent especially during the heatwave!" They hope to stay again soon.
The accommodation in detail
The windmill is set over three floors. Inside the stone walls have been left exposed, adding to the character of the building. You enter on the ground floor into the well-equipped, fitted, kitchen. Here you’ll find a dining table, electric cooker, fridge-freezer, washing machine, microwave and kettle. On the ground floor, under the stairs, there is also a shower room with a toilet.
On the first floor is the double bedroom with a king-sized bed, washbasin, hairdryer and mirror. Under the stairs, there is a wardrobe/storage area with hangers, rails and shelves for your clothes.
On the second floor the lounge is furnished with a settee, two comfortable armchairs, a coffee table, and chest of drawers. The fabulous view from here takes in the vineyard, the village church steeple and the local Chateau Theobon and beyond. Perfect to sit and admire with a glass of wine! There is a DVD player and TV with a selection of DVDs for you to enjoy. There are books and games available for your entertainment too.
Each floor has a wall-mounted electric heater making the windmill suitable for letting all year round. The natural stone of the windmill ensures the building is kept cool in summer and warm in winter. The windows and doors are also fitted with shutters. There are ceiling fans in some of the rooms to help keep you cool in summer and fly screens on the main windows if you prefer to open the windows to get a cool breeze.
