Marou, a stylish 19th century converted farmhouse, is set in the idyllic French countryside only 3km from the town of Villefranche de Perigord, a bastide (fortified medieval) town dating from the 13th century. The town boasts a covered market, a square, 3 food shops, a delicatessen, 2 bakeries, 2 butchers, a hardware store and a tabac which sells English-language newspapers. There is also has a tennis court, a boules court, a swimming pool, fishing and in the main season a cinema with some English language films.
The lovely property is a perfect base for exploring the area or for just relaxing by the pool. The accommodation is arranged over three floors with internet access throughout. It comfortably sleeps up to 6 guests in its 3 bedrooms. There is a bedroom downstairs and two further bedrooms on the top floor making it ideal for both families and groups of friends.
The pool alongside the property measures 10m x 5m and is lightly salted, which is beneficial for those with skin allergies. The pool is surrounded by an extensive paved terrace, which is set in a garden of approximately 1/4 acre with oak, chestnut and walnut trees, overlooking woods and fields. There are pool lights which allow for evening as well as daytime swimming and relaxing.

You enter through the kitchen which has a dishwasher, washing machine, a microwave, gas oven and electric hob, kettle and toaster. There are plenty of dishes, pots and pans for cooking. Two doors lead off the kitchen: the first to a wet room with a basin and toilet and the second to a bedroom with double doors down a step, which open out onto the terrace in front of the pool. The bedroom has a double bed, bedside tables, wardrobe, cupboard and an armchair. There is tiled flooring throughout the ground floor.
Up a flight of stairs, is a large, tastefully, furnished living room with a feature fireplace with woodburning stove. There are 2 large, comfortable sofas and a coffee table. The room has windows on both sides bringing in plenty light and providing views over the valley. There are shutters to prevent it from getting too hot. The room has wooden flooring and a beamed ceiling. There is a dining table that seats up to 6 guests. There is a stereo, lots of books, CDs, board and card games. There is also a TV with Netflix and a soundbar, which can be used to play music using Bluetooth. Plenty to keep everyone entertained! There is also a door out to the garden from here.
Another flight of stairs takes you to the third floor where there are 2 further bedrooms, both with two single beds, sloping ceiling and velux windows and a chest of drawers. There is also a bathroom with a bath, a sink and a toilet on this floor.
There are wall-mounted electric radiators which means the house is suitable for rentals all year round. There is also a telephone.
All bed linen and a bath and hand towel for each guest is included in the price. Please bring your own pool towels.
The large, saltwater pool has an electric cover and is surrounded by a paved terrace. The lovely garden which is mainly grass has many flowers and trees for you to enjoy. There is a table and chairs for alfresco dining by the pool, a BBQ and under a pergola by the door of the property there is another table and chairs. There is parking for two+ cars.
The Dordogne is famed for its hilltop medieval villages, fairytale castles, prehistoric cave paintings and bastide towns. The Dordogne river at Siorac and Domme is half an hour's drive north and the vineyards of the Lot valley, a similar distance south.
The Perigord Noir where Marou is situated is celebrated for its wine – the world famous vineyards of St Emilion and Monbazillac are a drive away – its countless bastide towns and chateaux, and a wealth of historic and pre-historic sites – a cradle of European civilization.
There are many activities locally including golf, canoeing, walking, horse riding, hot air ballooning, tennis, boules and fishing.
There are many village fetes held in the area and night markets at several towns and villages.
