This is the perfect opportunity to stay in a charming Breton two-bedroomed cottage situated in the quiet hamlet of St.Trimoël, just a few minutes from the village of Bréhand. It is an ideal base for walking and cycling, and close proximity to beautiful beaches. It is located just 10 minutes from the historic town of Moncontour, a fortified medieval town which still contains a good amount of its original defensive walls, built in the 13th and 14th centuries.
Bréhand itself has a Boulangere, Tabac, Chemist, Doctors. There is a Carrefour Express at Moncontour with larger supermarkets in Lamballe.
Lamballe is an historic City of Brittany, its streets are adorned with half-timbered houses in the center. It is also well-known for its stud farm which can be visited. Created in 1825, the stud farm housed 400 stallions and you can visit the forge, the saddlery etc.
The accommodation, sleeping 4 (in two bedrooms), is on two levels. It has been lovingly cared for and maintained by the owners. It includes a lounge/diner, kitchen and bathroom downstairs and upstairs to two substantial bedrooms. Outside is a front gravel garden where table and chairs can be used to eat meals outside on a warm evening. There is a rear lawn with trees where a shed stores 2 bikes for guests use and a full sized table tennis table.
ACCOMMODATION IN MORE DETAIL
The front door leads directly into the well-equipped kitchen. This leads into the lounge, which has a small wood burner and also holds a dining table and chairs for 4 people and a settee, which can turn into a sofa bed for extra guests. The lounge area has a TV for the use of DVD’s along with a selection of books and games.
Off the lounge is the family bathroom, which has a large shower, toilet and wash basin.
From the lounge there is a wooden staircase, which leads up to both bedrooms.
The main bedroom has a large double bed, small wardrobe and bedside tables. This leads into the second bedroom, which has two single beds, bedside tables and a hanging rail. Both bedrooms have windows to the front of the property.
There is no washing machine, but a clothes horse can be found in the closet under the stairs. There are large washing machines at Leclerc in Lamballe, 10 mins away.
Outside there is a wooden table and chairs for guests as well as a football table and table tennis table. A small fire-pit at the front of the property. There are 2 bikes available for the guests as well which are located in the garden shed. A spare key for all the sheds are held by the Property Manager.
All bedding, towels and t-towels are provided.
THE BRITTANY REGION
L’Hirondelle is in the Department of Côtes-d’Armor in the beautiful region of Central Brittany.
Brittany is easily accessible from the UK via several Ferry Ports and is also served by flights from the UK to 4 French airports.
From spectacular beaches with rugged coastlines to vast sandy expanses, to peaceful woods and forests and the famous Nantes-Brest Canal, Brittany has all the makings of a perfect holiday.
The cuisine in the area includes crepes and galettes and of course the Seafood! Mussels and oysters are available throughout the region, particularly in the summer months. Cider is produced here and local varieties are available in all supermarkets and restaurants.
During the summer, numerous villages and towns celebrate the “Pardon” which is predominately a religious thanksgiving but is always followed by a celebratory meal (with a drink or two!) and Breton dancing.
L’Hirondelle is a short walk or drive from the village of Bréhand. Here you can buy your fresh bread and croissants and it also has Banks, Post Office and a Doctors. For larger shops/supermarkets the town of Lamballe is a 10 minutes drive away.
A 10 minute drive from the accommodation can also take you to the historic town of Moncontour. Perched on top of a hill, surrounded by its ramparts, it deserves its titles as a small city of character. You will love to stroll through its narrow streets with medieval charm, discover its history and stroll in its peaceful countryside.
There are many pretty Breton towns all with their own charms.
Lamballe is a 10 minute drive and during July and August holds an all day market on a Thursday from 8:30 to 13:00h. Because of the connection to horses, there are guided tours, carriage rides and Equestrian shows, as well as restaurants and café’s to enjoy your day. It has large supermarkets, Leclerc, Aldi etc.
36 mins away is the historic town of Dinan. Every two years, the city plunges back for a weekend of history which men, women and valiant knights proudly displaying their period costumes. From the city center to the port on the banks of the Rance, visitors must take the famous street of Jerzual, known for its half-timbered houses and its many artists” studios. Dinan also has wonderful shops to browse through as well as excellent restaurants and cafés.
If you are wanting to visit the coast, 48 minutes away is Cap-Fréhel which is a very picturesque place on the northwest coast of Brittany, West of Dinard and near Plévenol. Cap-Fréhel is located below the limestone cliffs overlooking the sea to the north and the wild heather countryside. The views are exceptional even in comparison with the beautiful coastal landscape we expect to find in Brittany.
For the little ones the Zooparc de Trégomeur is 30 km away.
A 1 hour drive away is the stunning medieval city of Rennes, capital of Brittany. There are numerous outdoor cafés and restaurants in the picturesque square plus shops, so perfect if you want some retail therapy.
Roscoff is 1 ½ and St. Malo is 1 hour for the ferries.
Dinard Airport is 46 minutes away.
