A unique opportunity to stay in a stunning location at the edge of the Nantes-Brest canal with panoramic views of the medieval Chateau.
“Les pieds dans l’eau” (literal meaning “feet in the water”!) is a holiday home in the picturesque chateau town of Josselin, a French “petite cite de caractere”. An ideal base for walking, cycling or kayaking, the house is a few minutes stroll from the town centre. Josselin is a lively mix of shops, restaurants, bars and cafes. The magnificent chateau, still inhabited by the Rohan family, has guided tours in both French and English.
A 10 minute walk through the town takes you to Le Bois d'Amour. A beautiful "park in a town". This park shows nature at its best and is dedicated to the environment. There is a small childrens' play area also. dedicated to shows
Every Saturday is market day in Josselin. Local fresh produce including, cheese, vegetables, shellfish and cold meats are on sale.
The accommodation, sleeping 5-7, is on one level making it suitable for guests with impaired mobility. It is alongside the owners’ own home. It has been renovated to provide light and space. The 50 square metres of "floor to ceiling" windows maximising the amazing views of the chateau and canal! The main living area, 40 square metres, consists of a modern corner kitchen (large gas oven and hob, fridge freezer and dishwasher), a comfortable sitting area with views over the canal and a large dining table seating up to 10 people.
There are two bedrooms. A double room and one with three single beds. There is also a “clic-clac” bed in the living area to provide more sleeping space if required.
There is a shower room and separate toilet.
In the utility room is a washing machine and tumble dryer. Bikes are provided and also a kayak.
WiFi is available throughout the property and there is a TV (some UK channels) and a DVD player.
Outside is a paved garden with flower borders and secure parking for 2 cars. A BBQ and outdoor furniture are provided.
Dogs are generally welcome. Please enquire at time of booking! We can organise an appointment for the required veterinary treatment prior to your travel back to the UK.
We can offer a 20% discount on Brittany Ferries. This applies to each standard car and passenger.
A £40 cleaning fee applies to all bookings.
There are several travel options for coming to Brittany including Ferries from Portsmouth, Plymouth and Dover to a variety of French ports. Also the Eurotunnel and several flights from British airports to Rennes, Nantes, Dinard and Lorient. Please ask us as we have a wealth of knowledge regarding travel options to the area.
Linen and towels are provided. A cleaning charge of £40 is applied to each booking.
Changeover day is Saturday during High Season but flexible out of season. Minimum stay is 3 nights apart from High Season when it is 7 nights.
The Brittany region
“Les Pieds dans L’eau” is in the Department of Morbihan in the beautiful region of Brittany in northern France.
Brittany is easily accessible from the UK via several Ferry Ports and is also served by flights from the UK to 4 French airports.
From spectacular beaches with rugged coastlines to vast sandy expanses, to peaceful woods and forests and the famous Nantes-Brest Canal, Brittany has all the makings of a perfect holiday.
The cuisine in the area includes crepes and galettes and of course the seafood! Mussels and oysters are available throughout the region, particularly in the summer months. Cider is produced here and local varieties are available in all supermarkets and restaurants.
During the summer numerous villages and town celebrate the "Pardon" which is predominantly a religious thanksgiving but is always followed by a celebratory meal (with a drink or two!) and Breton dancing.
A 20 minute drive from the accommodation takes you to the Domaine de Kerguéhennec. Here you will find an unusual sculpture park and chateau in magnificent grounds. There is a large lake and lots of woodland. Dogs are welcome! There is a small café in the park but opening times can be limited! In the chateau there are often art exhibitions.
The walled city of Vannes is about a 50 minute drive from Josselin. The harbourside restaurants in Vannes are always busy in the summer months. The local seafood, oysters and mussels being particularly popular.
There are many pretty Breton towns all with their own charms.
Nearby is the charming town of La Gacilly. During the summer months an outdoor photographic exhibition is held. Boat trips on the canal are available. The Yves Rocher factory, shop and Spa are situated here. Also a vegetarian restaurant - very unusual in France!
Rochefort-en-Terre, about 45 minutes away, was voted “prettiest village in France” in 2015. With its cobbled streets, plentiful restaurants and shops, it is a must on your holiday agenda!
'Musée de la Résistance de Bretagne'
The fascinating 'Musée de la Resistance is at St Marcel. It chronicles the vital role played by the people of Brittany at the time of the German Occupation during the second World War.
Close to St Marcel is the delightful market and canalside town of Malestroit.
The zoo at Pont Scorff is ideal for younger members of the family (about 1 hour away)
The Prehistoric Park at Malansac, about 45 minutes away, is another great day out for the youngsters. There are 30 scenes of reconstruction of the dinosaur age. The park is based on models and information from the Natural History Museum in Paris.
Nearby (1 hour drive) is the stunning medieval city of Rennes, capital of Brittany. There are numerous outdoor cafés and restaurants in the picturesque square plus shops so perfect if you want some retail therapy!
