Description

A 200 year-old detached Charentaise villa, lots of character, stone walls, beams and original stone fireplace. Modern kitchen & bathrooms. The large, mature, secluded, south-facing garden, is not overlooked and has sun-loungers, table and 2 BBQ's. Lots of space to play. The 10m x 4m private pool has roman steps for easy access and is heated from the end of May, the pool is exclusive and no sharing with anyone else. The pool area has a summer kitchen/utility room (with fridge), shower & WC. The games room has a pool/snooker table & table football. The swimming pool, table tennis, books, boardgames, WiFi, UKTV, DVD, video games etc. will keep everyone occupied. The open plan kitchen/diner is fully equipped & has a large teak table & terracotta tiles. The lounge and all the bedrooms have fly screens. Relax with books & games on the mezzanine. WHAT A FANTASTIC FIND
Brilliant, facilities were perfect for all the teenagers. In the pool everyday. Kitchen had everything we needed. Bathrooms were clean and spacious. We stayed in Sainte for a family wedding the owners were more than accommodating and met all our needs. Would highly recommend

WONDEFUL STAY
We have recently had a wonderful stay at L'Abri. The accommodation was perfect for our needs and in fact so good, that we hardly wanted to leave to have days out! The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen was equipped excellently. The owners were very helpful and communicated very well. We enjoyed a lovely meal by the River Charente in local Taillebourg. We also had a super meal in the Square of Port D'Envaux. We ventured into St Jean D'Angeley on market day (Wednesday) and have a lovely day out on Ile D'Oleron. We also enjoyed visiting Fouras just South of La Rochelle on our way back to the airport. All in all - an excellent holiday and one that we would like to repeat in the future!

WELL-EQUIPPED AND COMFORTABLE
The house, garden and pool are all lovely. The property is well equipped and comfortable. The immediate area is rural and quiet but Saintes is close by and is a really pleasant town with plenty to see and do. It also has the benefit of a railway station with regular services to Bordeaux and La Rochelle. Please note there are a lot of steps and stairs in the property (all entrances have steps) as it is on a variety of levels.

ABSOLUTELY LOVELY
This property was absolutely lovely, everywhere was clean, the place has absolutely everything in it that you could want when on a holiday, from packs of cards to freezer bags for our ice cubes. We all had an excellent time and I would recommend it to anyone wanting a quiet relaxing holiday.

DEFINITELY WOULD RETURN
We had a lovely time and the villa was beautiful. Definitely would return but for a longer stay

WONDERFUL HOME IN PEACEFUL VILLAGE
A week of glorious sunshine in the beautiful French countryside. This villa had everything we could have wished for with lots of little extras. A fabulous home from home. The kitchen is a delight and particularly well equipped for those who love to cook. The beds were very comfortable and quality linen and pillows. We loved the pool which is a generous size and the raised patio where we could sit and relax in the evening. So many good things, table tennis, pool, table football, all added to the fun. Chris and Beverly made booking easy and provided lots of helpful information and a nice touch - a welcome pack of wine cheese and bread. We had a fabulous meal at L'Auberge Glycine in Taillebourg, a real treat by the river. It may be the rural location or the beautiful old thick house walls but nothing could spoil our enjoyment of this home. Thank you

STUNNING PROPERTY
This is a lovely property - a real 'home from home'. We stayed here for two weeks with our two adult daughters who also loved it. Chris & Beverley have gone to great lengths to provide all that you would want. The accommodation was immaculate on arrival with a lovely Welcome Pack which was a nice touch. The pool area has a kitchen area also with a shower and bathroom off that. We couldn't fault it and would gladly return. A very peaceful location. Saintes has a Hyper U with everything you need for a self catering holiday - no need to bring anything from the UK. It's about 20 mins by car. There is a Super U (mini market) closer by if you need something in a rush. We visited lots of towns on the coast, Saintes several times for lunch, dinner and shopping. (Need to tune in to French opening times!). We visited Cognac, Angouleme and La Rochelle a couple of times. Empty roads - easy driving. We would definitely return here and would highly recommend it to others.

THE PERFECT HOLIDAY
We stayed at L’Abri for two weeks. We chose the villa after carrying out extensive research of similar properties within one hour’s drive of La Rochelle. It’s a long time since we rented a holiday villa and said – Wow! Within a few minutes of looking around. This is an exceptional home where the owners have taken a great deal of care both in furnishing and equipping the property. The villa is finished to a very high standard, is spotlessly clean and equipped so comprehensively that you will want for nothing. The extensive games facilities gave us a great deal of enjoyment. We loved the total privacy of the property and its tranquil location. Less than 5 cars per day pass down the road. Within a pleasant 15 minutes’ drive, along almost deserted roads, there are an array of shops, supermarkets and restaurants. Beaches are around 45 minutes’ drive away, again along almost deserted roads. We would recommend this property to anyone without any hesitation. It was probably one of our best ever holidays.

FABULOUS HOLIDAY HOME
We have just spent an amazing 2 weeks at this accommodation and would not hesitate to recommend - you will not be disappointed. The house is gorgeous (the photos don't do it justice!) and comfortable with loads of room and extremely well equipped. A lovely 'welcome pack' greeted us on arrival which was much appreciated. Swimming pool is first class and warm and much time was spent in it. This along with table tennis, pool, table football etc kept our sons of 19 & 24 very happy. Surrounding area is beautiful with lots of places to visit within easy reach - including Saintes, Royan, Ile d'Oleron & Ile de Re, La Rochelle etc... Very hard to leave on final day as we felt so 'at home' - looking forward very much to a return visit.

AN EXCELLENT RENTAL
An excellent rental. For once we have found that the owners have thought about their customers. There is everything you could want at this accommodation. The local shops are within a 5 minute drive. The hamlet is very quiet with maybe a couple of cars passing per day. I would not hesitate to recommend this property to others

EXCELLENT GITE
Excellent holiday gite. Everything as described in advert but needs to be experienced to fully appreciate the comfort and excellent facilities. Situated in a very peaceful hamlet about 20 minutes from Saintes. Pool was great on hot days but table tennis and pool table used every day and great for not so sunny days. All rooms clean and with nice, modern furnishings. Great situation close to interesting towns, beaches close enough for day trips (Ile d'Oleran best) and river 10 minutes away. We brought kayaks-good launch spots at Taillebourg and Saint-Vaize. Also, good slipway next to bridge in Bourg-Charente (very pretty village near Cognac). Many great trips on La Charente. This is our second visit to L'Abri. I am sure we will be back.

EXTREMELY COMFORTABLE
We thoroughly enjoyed our peaceful, relaxed Christmas and New Year at L'Abri. The house is extremely comfortable and cosy and offers luxurious, modern kitchen and bathroom facilities. Nothing has been overlooked, we even had UK TV to watch. Under mainly bright blue skies, we visited the lovely nearby towns of Saintes, St Jean d'Angely and Cognac and enjoyed an exhilarating Boxing Day walk along the beach at Royan. A bit further afield, but due to the excellent French roads, well worth the journey, is the beautiful city of Bordeaux. Thanks to Chris and Beverley for their excellent communication. We look forward to a future visit in the Summer to make use of the very tempting looking pool!

EXCEEDED EXPECTATIONS
We have just returned from this gite, and have to say that it far exceeded our expectations. The furnishing and fittings were nice , giving the property a feeling of quality. The children really loved the pool, which is fantastic, but also the den with the games and books. The attention to detail about what makes a family holiday was spot on, with ping pong, pool toys. There are bike trails surrounding the property and a great BMX track tucked away in the forest. Saintes is lovely and functional, with shops and supermarkets and other areas are easily accessible(Il de Re worth a visit). I would highly recommend this Gite-it is well done, well maintained and the owners were very easy to communicate with.

SUITABLE FOR ANY FAMILY
We have just enjoyed the most wonderful week at L'Abri. A gorgeous house, Well furnished and equipped to a high standard for your every need - literally. L'Abri is a very comfortable home with a warm and friendly feel to it. Typically French with plenty of space for everyone and games, activities and books galore. Suitable for any family dynamic. ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC HOLIDAY
Absolutely fantastic holiday!! The villa is so so much better that what you could imagine from the pictures provided. My husband and I walked around the house for about an hour in amazement. Everything you could think of is provided and more.. weather was fantastic, pool was fantastic, the kids loved it so much. Villa was clean and fresh. Lovely and modern without loosing the character of the house. Fantastic communication from the owners. The area is rural but nothing was too far away! Exactly what we needed, a home from home with a private pool, beautiful weather, beautiful surroundings and so peaceful. Enough to shut the world away and relax and enjoy.. (that was our choice). Highly recommend to all!!

KEEP COMING BACK
The villa has so many little extra touches prepared for arrival that really made our stay even better. Would definitely consider coming back.

TOP NOTCH
We absolutely thoroughly enjoyed our week at L'abri. The facilities were top notch, from all the available utensils for cooking to all the activities that we could enjoy with our teenage sons. it gave Bob and I a chance to relax while the boys had plenty to keep them occupied. The welcome gifts were a lovely thought and thoroughly enjoyed. A picturesque peaceful setting, more oasis than shelter

WE HAD A GREAT TIME
We had a great time here during the last week in August. The house is wonderful, lots of space, well decorated & furnished and very well equipped. We made good use of the games rooms, pool and bbq! The location is very peaceful and we enjoyed going to the local bakery for breakfast goods etc. Thoroughly recommended for a relaxing family holiday.

Directions

The villa is about 30 minutes drive from exit 34 (to Saint Jean D'Angeley) off of the A10. It is easily found using a sat-nav, but we will provide detailed written instructions if required.

Neighborhood

The villa is situated in, La Salle, a small hamlet of around 8 houses within the commune of Saint Vaize. It is very quiet with little traffic. The location is rural. but with a few restaurants and a boulangerie 5 minutes drive away in Taillebourg. Saintes, a city of 30,000 inhabitants is 12 minutes away, this has all the facilities one would expect in a place of that size. The River Charente is about 10 minutes walk.

BOOKING PROCESS

You contact us saying which period you want to book.

We will reply and attach a booking form which you need to complete, scan and return back to us via email. A non-returnable deposit of 30% of the rental costs is required to secure the reservation, the details of where to transfer the funds are included on the booking form. Our preferred payment method is bank transfer but Paypal is available if you prefer.

The balance is due 2 months prior to the start of the holiday. Once this is paid we will send you all the details you need such as address and access code.

All bed linen and towels (house and pool/beach) are included.
Security deposit
There is a security deposit of £300 which is returnable within 7 days of the end of the holiday. Accidental breakages and wear and tear have never been deducted from the deposit.

#145. Relaxing time in the charante

Situated in a small hamlet, very private and quiet. Only 15 min drive from the lovely town of Saintes for sight seeing, river cruises and great restaurants. Good restaurants near by in Taillebourg and Port d’Enveux. The house was spotlessly clean and very well equipped. The pool area is spacious and a real sun trap. Owners very helpful and responsive. Would highly recommend
