The tiny hamlet of La Bucherie dates back to the early 18th century when it was the centre of a thriving loggery providing wood for a nearby forge. In the early 20th century the focus turned to farming, primarily goats for “chèvre” and many of the original buildings workers cottages were abandoned or became derelict.
In 2014 the rebuilding and renovation of 2 cottages (Hibou & Hulotte) was completed and became available for the first time in 2015 as Les Chouettes.
Situated in this hidden jewel of SW France, the Charente, Les Chouettes holiday cottages are surrounded by unspoilt countryside with direct access to many outdoor activities and places of interest whilst providing the ideal spot to relax and unwind.
Situated at one end of the 18th century longere, Hulotte provides spacious family accommodation in a renovated cottage that still retains many original features. The cottage enters from a private driveway into the large dining area with step up into well equipped galley kitchen including fridge-freezer, oven, hob, washing machine and range of other small kitchen appliances. French doors from the kitchen lead to a private south facing terrace with dining area, barbecue and sun loungers
An arch leads from the dining area to a large lounge with feature open fireplace. The downstairs double bedroom leads from the lounge and in turn to a large ensuite shower room with double size shower, basin and WC.
Stairs lead from the lounge to a delightful galleried twin bedroom with spectacular original beams. There is direct access from the stairs and bedroom to a bathroom with bath (shower over), basin and WC.
Guests also have access to newly completed 10m x 5m swimming pool in spacious communal garden with terrace, picnic area and barbeque. There is also a 2 acre stocked fishing lake and petanque court.
Les Chouettes is the ideal place to relax and unwind but the local area has many popular sights and activities on offer.
The Charente region, which boasts the second warmest summers in France, has lush rolling green countryside which lends itself to many kilometres of walking and cycling which can be accessed straight from your front door. The Lacs of Haute Charente offer sailing, swimming and beach activities. Local rivers provide canoeing and kayaking.
Close to the Route de Coeur de Lion, the chateaux at La Rochfoucauld, Rochecouart and Etangnac are beautiful. Whilst a little further a field day trips can be made to Futuroscope at Poitiers, the French atlantic coast and the Dordogne and the Perigueaux National Park.
