Hirondelles des Sables (swallows in the sand) is a lovely maisonette with stunning, panoramic coastal views. The double French windows open onto a balcony which overlooks the dunes, sea, reefs, a small boat anchorage and a protected swimming area.
Situated in the picturesque fishing village of Lechiagat (which shares the harbour with its neighbour, Le Guilvinec), the property gives unparalleled access to all coastal and cultural activities typical of the Bigouden region. This being the most south-western area of Bro Kernev in Brittany, south-west of Quimper, in the French departement of Finistère.
The entrance hall leads to the twin bedroom, laundry area and there is a door to the walled garden at the rear. Upstairs is an open plan living area, kitchen, dining and sitting room with TV and mini hi-fi. The balcony, with table and chairs,makes a perfect spot for coffee or aperos!
The double bedroom has a “Jack and Jill” bathroom that can also be accessed directly from the living area.
All linen and towels are included in the rental price.
The rear walled garden with its patio and shaded seating area is perfect for relaxing after a hard day sight seeing! A BBQ is provided for guest use. The garden is occasionally shared with the English owners when they are in residence in the adjoining house. At the front there is a drive way and a small garden with immediate access to the dune and family-friendly beach.
On the first floor, the property has a modern kitchen in open plan area. Includes ceramic hob with fan-assisted oven, fridge-freezer, dishwasher, kettle, toaster, microwave, electric mixer/blender, cafetiere. The kitchen is well equipped with utensils, china and glass ware. There is a "drop leaf" table and chairs.
The open plan living area includes kitchen and dining area. The polished wood floor adds to the enhances this light and airy room. there are four comfortable chairs with side tables. The double glass doors lead to the balcony, with space for seating and table overlooking the sea.
On the ground floor is a twin bedroom with side tables and lights, full length wardrobe, chest of drawers, oak floor, window with shutter overlooking rear garden.
The first floor bedroom has a double bed and access to the "Jack and Jill" bathroom. There are bedside tables and lamps, chest of drawers, full length wardrobe, dressing table and hair dryer. This room looks over the pretty rear garden.
A cot is available on request and also a stairgate is provided.
The bathroom, with separate access from either the sitting room or the upstairs double bedroom, has a shower cubicle, mirror, heated towel rail and WC.
There are electric heaters in each room. Hot water is provided by oil fired boiler. Electric blankets are available
There is free Wi-Fi throughout the house. Also a mini hi-fi, satellite English television with dvd player, boardgames, books and playing cards are provided.
There is a small garden at the front of the property. The secluded walled garden at the rear is occasionally shared with the owners when they are in residence. There is seating, a patio and barbecue.
There is room for a car on the drive at the front of the apartment, but most people either park on the peaceful road side or in the small free public car park which is only 50 metres away.
Guests have access to the garage which is used for storing bikes and sporting equipment.
This house is not accessible for wheelchair users. Please note, the bathroom is located upstairs.
Neither smoking nor pets are permitted on the premises please.
Two mountain bikes are available for guest use.
Watersports equipment stored in the garage are NOT for guest use. However, the 3 buoyancy aids may be borrowed.
Washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher, travel cot , hair dryer and steam iron/board provided.
Bath towels and bed linen are provided.

Lechiagat and Le Guilvinec have a wide selection of bars and restaurants featuring fresh fish, langoustines, lobster and crepes as well as other traditional dishes. Oysters and a range of other shellfish can be bought direct from the producer 50 metres from your door. There is a bakery within 5 minutes walk that sells wonderful bread as well as other provisions. Each afternoon the arrival of the busy fishing fleet to land its catch of live langoustines and other produce is an event not to be missed. To gain a greater insight of the fishing industry and history wander over to the Haliotika centre in Le Guilvinec.
Swimming, sailing, snorkelling, kayaking, fishing, hiking, horse riding and cycling are on the doorstep and the coastal path runs past the apartment. Two mountain bikes are available for guests to use.
The area is an excellent base for bird-watching. Waders are plentiful, kentish plovers nest on the beach and spoonbills are frequently seen on the lake that is 3 minutes walk away and features its own ‘menhir’.
The world renowned west facing Atlantic surfing beach at La Torche is 15 minutes drive away. The surf schools also provide all the kit you need and expert English speaking tuition in ‘stand-up’, kite surfing and sand yachting.
There are 3 golf courses within about 45 minutes.
Lechiagat has an evening market on Friday, during July and August. Larger markets operate in Le Guilvinec on Tuesday and Sunday mornings. The town of Pont l’Abbe, a 15 minute drive, holds a market every Thursday morning throughout the year. This charming ancient town is also a good starting point for a riverside walk towards the popular sea port of Loctudy. Further to the east lie the resort towns of Benodet and Concarneau.
The historic city of Quimper is at the head of the Odet River valley and is within an easy drive. It is well worth a visit to view the cathedral, art galleries and medieval shopping area. There are various festivals throughout the year, notably the Festival Cornouaille in July.
Brittany offers a wealth of varied landscapes - beautiful sandy beaches, deep forests and medieval towns.
Brittany is easily accessible from the UK via several Ferry Ports and is also served by flights from the UK to 4 French airports.
From spectacular beaches with rugged coastlines to vast sandy expanses, to peaceful woods and forests and the famous Nantes-Brest Canal, Brittany has all the makings of a perfect holiday.
The cuisine in the area includes crepes and galettes and of course the seafood! Mussels and oysters are available throughout the region, particularly in the summer months. Cider is produced here and local varieties are available in all supermarkets and restaurants.
During the summer numerous villages and town celebrate the "Pardon" which is predominantly a religious thanksgiving but is always followed by a celebratory meal (with a drink or two!) and Breton dancing.
