France is celebrated for its delicious wine and beautiful producing regions. Tourists are able to book tasting tours and learn a little more about the history of production, as well as what gives each region its own subtle flavours. Burgundy has some particularly interesting vineyards that are well worth a visit. Think France, think pavement cafes, fine dining and award-winning cuisine. There is no end to the specialities you will come across, from the fresh oysters and grilled entrecote steak in Bordeaux to the fusion of French and Spanish cuisine in Midi-Pyrénées.
Heritage sites
France is full of outstanding architecture and fascinating areas of historical interest, many of which have been selected as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. At present there are 38 French properties named on the list of World Heritage Sites. Bourges Cathedral in the Centre region was added to the list in 1992. Dating back to approximately 1195, the building even retains some of its original stained glass. Canal des Deux Mers (canal of the two seas) is a 17th century canal in Southern France. It is 241 km long and connects the Garonne River to the Mediterranean. It became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996.
