Barn Owl Cottage is an exceptional family gite, for upto 6 people (plus cot if required), with private pool, large garden and fishing lake in the Dordogne, in close proximity to the Charante and Limousin areas. Set in 6 acres of beautiful mature gardens boasting fruit trees, mature shrubs and plenty of wildlife, with picturesque views on all sides overlooking stunning countryside as far as the eye can see. There is a stunning private fishing lake to either sit and relax or fish to your heart’s content.
The house has beautiful, traditional features such as exposed beams and stone walls. It is decorated and furnished with all the modern necessities required for guests to enjoy their stay. Wifi is available in the cottage.
There are various outdoor areas for dining (covered available also) in the garden area. There is a full sized Petanque court (boules) for guests to use, a selection of adult bikes to borrow and we have 5 full sets of golf clubs that are available to use free of charge to guests - there is an international course 10 minutes drive from the property.
The owners Tracey and Paul live on site in another property to help with any actvities, recommendations, fishing etc if required, but will give you all the privacy you require.
Lake:
At the bottom of the garden area, there is a beautiful private 1-acre lake which is stocked with Carp up to 44lb, Tench, Roach, Perch, Pike and Zander. We have all the equipment needed for our guests to borrow free of charge, although guests are welcome to bring their own also.
Out and about:
Within a short drive are Piegut, (Wednesday’s Market is one of the biggest in the Dordogne), Brantome (Venice of Perigord), La Rochefoucauld Chateau, which is just stunning. The Medieval, walled City of Angouleme with its beautiful old town is 45 minutes away. Stunning swimming lakes in St Estephe, St Mathieu and the Lacs of the Charante (all within 20 minutes drive). Canoeing on La Tardoire - 20 minutes drive to Montbron.

High chair, travel cot, potty/toilet seat/step, stair gates – all available on request. Kitchen: Oven, hob, microwave, American style fridge freezer, dishwasher, kettle, toaster. Living space: Smart TV, Freesat, DVD player & DVD’s. Games room: Full size pool table, full size table football, darts board, weights machine, sofas.
General: Heated swimming pool, Fishing lake, fishing equipment, golf equipment, hairdryer, all bedding/linen and towels included.

AGB
Bookings are accepted on the basis of a deposit being paid at the time of booking (non-refundable). The balance is payable in full not less than 6 weeks before arrival. We also require a security deposit of €200 cash to cover damage/breakages, to be paid either in advance or in cash on day of arrival. This deposit will be returned at the end of stay if there are no mishaps.
Although occupancy is covered by normal insurance, no liability can be accepted for any mishap or injuries occurring on the premises. This is of particular importance to the swimming pool and the lake and therefore all children under the age of 16 must be under adult supervision. It should be noted that the swimming pool conforms to French safety regulations.
Cleaning – visitors are requested to leave their accommodation in as clean condition as they find it on their arrival. In the event that extra cleaning is required following departure, the cost of this may be deducted from the deposit before return. Strictly no smoking in any of the premises or near the swimming pool. We do not object to smoking outside, but you are asked not to drop cigarette ends in the grounds.
Insurance and cancellation – we do advise people to take out insurance with a cancellation clause. In the event of cancellation, we reserve the right to retain monies paid if we are unable to re-let the property booked.
No license is required to fish the lake.
No animals allowed.
Swimming Pool – the pool is open May to September (or April to October – weather dependent).

#140. Stunning place to stay
Spent a week with my 3 brothers. I spent a long time choosing where to stay to ensure there was something for everyone to do and we weren't disappointed. The gite is stunning, beautifully decorated and furnished. Never mind staying a week, I could happily live there. The fishing lake and all the fishing gear was great, caught plenty of nice fish. The cycling and bikes where great, fantastic countryside for miles and miles. The golf clubs and golf course where lovely. Very relaxing in the gite, outside in shaded areas or sunny areas and the pool. Paul and Tracy where the perfect hosts, ever so helpful and nothing was too much trouble, they made it look so easy. #139. A truly fantastic experience
Just finished a two week break, we have had a wonderful time and would recommend this place without hesitation
The gite is set in a stunning part of Aquitaine and there are spectacular panoramic views from all sides.
Tracey and Paul are wonderful hosts who have the balance between being on hand when needed for advice but never being overbearing.
The gite is well appointed and has everything anyone would need. The location is very quiet but there are lots of amazing places to visit.

#131. A truly fantastic place to stay.
After finding this location I spoke with the owner Paul on several occasions via WhatsApp just to check on a few things prior to booking. Paul was so very helpful on the phone answering all my questions, nothing was too much trouble and he always replied promptly to the messages I sent him.
So I was happy with what Paul told me and I booked online for two weeks with my partner and her parents.
On arrival we were met by both Paul and his lovely wife Tracey.
Well what can I say the location is absolutely amazing and so tranquil. The Gite is beautiful, roomy was spotlessly clean and decorated and furnished to a very high standard and tastefully presented.
The kitchen area is huge, so plenty of room to prepare food and there was plenty of utensils pots pans mugs plates and cutlery that you needed.
The swimming pool was well needed as it was so hot during our stay with temperatures up to 37 degrees. Again set in a lovely location with a patio area and sun loungers with a canopy for shade if required after your dip in the pool.
Me being a fisherman I fished the lake several times and Paul was always there to give me advice on the swims to fish and as I didn’t take my own fishing tackle Paul has got a very large selection of fishing tackle that I was able to use. The conditions were extremely hot but I still managed to catch some beautiful Tench, Carp, Roach and Rudd. The lake is absolutely stunning in a lovely location surrounded by trees and so very peaceful.
Paul and Tracey also have bikes that you can use which me and my partner used as well as sets of golf clubs if you want to play golf. There is also a games room with a pool table, darts board and some gym equipment.
They let us know about a couple of bars where a food van turns up and you can order fish and chips, burgers and other options which is run by an English couple. The food was fantastic and very reasonably priced. One of the bars has different live bands every Tuesday, both Paul and Tracey went to them both and we followed them in our car which was good of them to do.
We all had such a wonderful and relaxing holiday in such a beautiful part of France, our hosts Paul and Tracey were so so friendly and helpful and as I’ve already mentioned nothing I repeat nothing is too much trouble for them. We have all made some new friends in them both and will most definitely be going back for another holiday.
If your looking for a peaceful relaxing holiday away with fantastic hosts this is most definitely the place to book up.
