Amazing Architecture in France

We have included examples of old architecture and modern architecture for you to check out. All of the structures featured are exceptional for one reason or another. Hôtel-Dieu de Beaune

Above: This building was founded in 1443 by Nicolas Rolin, chancellor of Burgundy, as a hospital for the poor. A fine example of French fifteenth-century architecture which is now a museum.

Mont-Saint-Michel

Above: Located just over half a mile off the Normandy coast, this beautiful island has been an important pilgrimage site for many hundreds of years in France.

Louvre Pyramid

Above: A large glass and metal pyramid designed by Chinese-American architect I.M. Pei. The pyramid serves as the main entrance to the Louvre Museum and was completed in 1989.

Ferdinand Cheval Palace

Above: This one was built by Ferdinand Cheval, a French postman from oddly shaped rocks he found along his mail route. Construction on the palace began in 1879 and was completed in 1912.

Château de Chenonceau

Above: A French château spanning the River Cher, near the small village of Chenonceaux in the Indre-et-Loire département of the Loire Valley. The estate of Chenonceau is first mentioned in writing in the 11th century.

Fondation Louis Vuitton

Above: The $143 million museum in Paris was opened in October 2014. The building was designed by the architect Frank Gehry, and is adjacent to the Jardin d'Acclimatation in the Bois de Boulogne of the 16th arrondissement of Paris.

Hôtel de Ville

Above: This building based in Paris houses the city's local administration. The south wing was originally constructed by the king of France called François I beginning in 1535 until 1551.

Quai Branly Museum

Above: Designed by renowned architect Jean Nouvel, its Seine-facing facade has been covered with an impressive 650-foot-long green wall that serves as natural insulation and improves the air quality.

Colmar

Above: A small town located in the Alsace region in the north-east of France that is popular with visitors touring the Alsatian Wine Route and people who want to check out the colourful half-timbered houses.

Arc de Triomphe

Above: The Arc de Triomphe de l'Étoile is one of the most famous monuments in Paris, standing at the western end of the Champs-Élysées. The monument was designed by Jean Chalgrinin 1806.

The Old Mill of Vernon

Above: A quaint medieval millhouse that hovers surprisingly above the waters of the Seine. Built in the 16th century it can be easily seen from the Clemenceau bridge or from the park of the Tourelles Castle.

Eiffel Tower

Above: The Eiffel Tower is an iron lattice tower located on the Champ de Mars in Paris. It was named after the engineer Gustave Eiffel, whose company designed and built the tower. Construction was completed on 15th March 1889.
