La Libellule is an exceptionally baby and child friendly two bedroomed cottage/gite at our wonderful old farmhouse logis which dates from the 17th Century. It is set in 2 acres of gardens, meadow and orchard and surrounded by vines and sunflowers. We also have 2 other holiday cottages here , La La Sorciere and Le Figuier . The 3 houses are very well spaced on different sides of an enormous courtyard so that you can be very private if you want to but at the same time it is easy to make friends with other families staying here at the same time.
Living in the main house we are available if you should need us. We are situated on the border of the Charente Maritime (17) and Charente (16) departements, and only 4 to 5 hours drive from the Channel ports, just over an hour from the La Rochelle airport and an hour and a half from Bordeaux.
Only 10 minutes from historic Cognac with it's cobbled streets, pavement cafes, shops gardens, cognac houses to visit and numerous festivals throughout the year. We are also close to wonderful La Rochelle, the beautiful Romanesque small city of Saintes, medieval St Jean D'Angely, Angouleme, Royan, La Palmyre and much much more. Amazing sandy Atlantic beaches are an easy 40 minute drive away and then there is also the Lazy River Charente and nearby lakes for canoeing, fishing and windsurfing.
Children are well catered for with a 10 x 5 metre heated pool, a sandpit and a large selection of toys. We also have table tennis, badminton and basket ball, football goals in the meadow, climbing frames, swings and slides plus bikes to borrow free of charge.
For those who really can't or don't wish to escape the buzz of everyday life completely, we do have a free, accessible wi-fi connection in the courtyard.
La Libellule is very spacious and south facing.
The 2 upstairs bedrooms are a really good size (huge parents room with king size bed, a good sized children's room with plenty of space for a cot. Upstairs wc/washbasin)
Downstairs there is a large bathroom with a big walk-in wet room type shower and a kitchen with access to the garden. The main living room has a dining area and a very comfortable sitting area. There is a good selection of books and games in case of a rainy day. We always try to put a selection of toys in the house to suit the ages of your children.
There is also another door to the garden.
The kitchen has a Smeg range cooker, fridge-freezer, microwave, coffee-maker and dishwasher plus all the utensils you could need.
The Living /dining room has large table, chairs and a good supply of tableware and glasses plus of course comfortable sofa etc.
Right outside there is a shaded seating area with a table and chairs for using the barbecue and outdoor eating plus space to simply relax.
The courtyard is well planted with trees and shrubs so that you feel very private even though the children can run around and play together in complete safety.

We’ve enjoyed many wonderful stays in La Libellule, and can’t recommend it strongly enough.
It’s an ideal family holiday home with a large living/dining area that’s perfect when you want to get together, and two roomy bedrooms for when you want your own space.
The front door opens out onto the spacious courtyard with lots of mature trees, and La Libellule has a covered seating area that’s ideal for mealtimes or for relaxing with a glass from the local winemakers as the sun sets over the stone entrance archway.
A few steps away we enjoy wandering in the meadow complete with play equipment and a small sports pitch, and even closer is the swimming pool which is surrounded by a lovely garden and has loungers that are perfect for a mid-afternoon snooze. Just like the accommodation, the pool is always spotlessly clean.
Although there are three separate cottages here, there’s so much space that you can choose whether to spend time chatting to fellow guests (or not!). The hamlet of La Cabane is extremely peaceful anyway, but as you drive in through the stone archway with its metal gates, there’s a real sense of tranquillity and truly getting away from it all.
When we can drag ourselves away, Cognac is just a short drive and offers a huge selection of restaurants, supermarkets and attractions. We love la Scala for Italian food on the terrace overlooking the river.
Less well known but possibly even more beautiful is the town of Jarnac, also on the Charente river and just a little further away in the opposite direction. The Courvoisier distillery tour is well worth a visit, but for buying Cognac we’d recommend a tasting with one of the many local producers in the villages around la Cabane.
Heather and Philip have created something very special at Logis la Cabane, and it probably says all you need to know that like us, so many people return year after year to stay at this very special place.
