Angers is a picturesque city with many half-timbered buildings still standing on the narrow medieval streets. The surrounding countryside is also home to some of the finest chateaux in the Loire region. Much of the rural parts of the region are given over to vineyards and farmland. The vineyards in this part of France are well-regarded and most welcome visitors for tastings and tours.
The historical town of Ancenis, with a history stretching back beyond the Middle Ages, is a famous wine centre and the surrounding countryside is full of wine villages and vineyards. There are plenty of places to stock up on the best vintages to take home with you. Prices are considerably lower than at home so it's possible to make huge savings.
