This brand new 2 bedroom, 2.5 bathroom apartment nestles amidst the vines of Chateau Camplazens on the highest plateau of the Clape region in the Aude, between Armissan, Narbonne and Narbonne Plage, at the heart of the Narbonnaise Regional Natural Park. This ancient Roman outcrop is recognised as the largest natural protected site in the Languedoc.
An ideal base for exploring the many attractions this area has to offer, the apartment offers modern and sleek accommodation for four people in two good size bedrooms both with king-size beds and luxurious en-suite Italian shower-rooms. The open plan kitchen-diner and lounge both open onto a generous terrace overlooking the vines, with table, chairs and parasol for alfresco dining and sun loungers to relax in the sun. There is also a very convenient gas BBQ for cooking outside.
The kitchen boasts extensive top of the range equipment, a fridge-freezer, cooker, microwave and induction hob and there is a utility room with washing. machine and tumble dryer. There is a central island with plentiful seating for indoor dining and the comfortable lounge area has ample seating and a large wide-screen TV.
The apartment also benefits from air-conditioning throughout and has WIFI installed along with access to international TV channels as well as French. All the rooms have electronically operated blinds to keep the inside cool from the possible 3000 hours of sunshine per year. The area is one of the sunniest places in France.
Although children are welcome and there is a sofa bed in the lounge to help sleeping arrangements, the apartment is also extremely suitable for two couples sharing. There is a baby cot available on request.
The apartment is on the first floor but is accessed via a slope rather than steps and there is just 1 small step up from the terrace to both the kitchen and lounge. Once inside there are no steps. The apartment is therefore suited to people with mobility issues but wheelchair users should ask for more information re: the doorways (which are a standard width) into the bedrooms/bathrooms if they are concerned.
The property is non-smoking and does not accept dogs. There is ample parking space available.
During your stay the owners will offer you a complementary wine-tasting in the caveau and tower. You will have an opportunity to learn about the wines that are produced here and see some of the processes involved.
At Chateau Camplazens you are only minutes from the sea at Narbonne Plage. This fine sandy beach extends for some 5km with a 2.5km pedestrian promenade which boasts numerous delicious fish restaurants and bars. Many watersports activities are also available from the beach. You can get details and book activities at the Narbonne Plage Tourist Office in person or on their website. Another beautiful seaside resort is Gruissan at about 12 km. There are numerous watersports. boat trips, fishing trips and cycling activities all available. Again see the Gruisson Tourist Information website and brochures in the apartment for details.
In the other direction, the culturally fascinating city of Narbonne is also only 7km away. Here as well as finding shops aplenty, there are a wealth of historical buildings to explore dating from the Romans when the city was founded in 118BC with fine examples of architecture from medieval times too. The Robine Canal, a branch of the famous Canal du Midi also runs through the centre of Narbonne on its way to the Mediterranean at Port La Nouvelle.
Armissan is where you will find the nearest boulangerie for your morning croissants and there is also an excellent butchers, a small grocery store and a vegetable stall. There are morning markets in Narbonne Plage on Thursday and Sunday, every morning in St Pierre sur Mer and there is a large indoor market in Narbonne centre. The nearest hypermarket is Carrefour in Narbonne and there is also an Intermarché between Gruisson and Narbonne Plage.
About an hour away is the must-see medieval town of Carcassonne and if you head South on the A9 you will find the beautiful seaside town of Collioure with its ancient port, many artists and quaint streets full of interesting shops and eateries.
This property is let from Saturday to Saturday with a minimum stay of 7 nights from June – September and 4 nights from October to May.
