Description
Auvignac House is situated in a peaceful hamlet 5 minutes from the town of Rochechouart in the Haute Vienne region and just 15 minutes from the popular Dordogne. In Rochechouart you'll find supermarkets, restaurants and bars.
The house consists of three fabulous properties that can comfortably sleep 20 people between them. Perfect for extended families or a couple of families holidaying together. There are some extra bunk beds that can be used if your party includes more children. Please enquire for details.
Main house
The main property has four bedrooms that sleep up to 9 guests, a large modern kitchen, double-height sitting room, a playroom, and a utility room. You enter the property via the kitchen which is fully equipped with everything you need. It has a six-ring range style gas cooker, fridge freezer, dishwasher, microwave, Nespresso coffee machine, kettle and toaster. There is seating for up to 15 people, a large wood burner and a door out onto the deck area at the rear, leading to the pool and garden.
A flight of stairs from the kitchen takes you up to a large double bedroom with king-size bed, which has an ensuite shower room with a sink and toilet. The room is furnished with a wardrobe and bedside table.
In the centre of the property is a spacious, bright, double-height living room with a feature stone wall and exposed beams. It has a large comfortable leather sofa, 50" plasma screen TV and Chromecast for streaming, iPod docking station, and a wood burner for chillier nights.
Off the living area, there is a playroom with table football, dartboard and lots of books and toys for your use. There is also a chess set, board games. Plenty to keep all the family entertained!
There is a downstairs bedroom with a double bed and a single bed, as well as a wardrobe and shelving.
A steep staircase leads up from the living area taking you up to two bedrooms with bunk beds, ideal for the children.
Downstairs there is a bathroom with bath and double showerhead over the bath, sink and a toilet.
The utility room has a washing machine and tumble dryer, as well as an additional fridge freezer for those extra supplies. Outside there is a whirly gig to dry off your costumes after a day in the pool.
Maison Tom
Maison Tom is a charming, self-contained, two-bedroom house, sleeping up to 5 guests. Downstairs there is a kitchen with a dining table, electric cooker and fridge freezer. Off the kitchen is a spacious bedroom with a king size bed and exposed beams. It has been stylishly furnished and benefits from a wood burner for cosy winter evenings. There are two chest of drawers, a freestanding mirror and a built-in wardrobe with hanging space. There is also a downstairs toilet. Upstairs is a lovely, large sitting area which is double height with exposed beams and stone walls. There is a comfortable leather sofa and two armchairs to accommodate everyone. Up a step, along a corridor from the living area is a family bathroom with bath, shower cubicle with double shower head, sink and toilet. There is also a second bedroom with three single beds, ideal for children or groups of friends.
Maison Jack
Maison Jack set over two floors has rustic charm and sleeps up to 6 guests. On the ground floor is a small studio which has a living room with wood burner, fridge, kettle, and sink. It has a separate double bedroom with shower, sink and toilet. The bedroom is furnished with a wardrobe, chair and mirror. Upstairs, which is accessed via an outside staircase, there are two further double bedrooms with partially exposed stone walls and exposed beams adding character. Both rooms have a wardrobe, bedside table, chair and mirror. There is a toilet and sink on the upper level as well.

Linen and towels are included in the price. However, please note that you should bring your own towels for the pool.

There are fans available in the property for when it gets a bit hot and umbrellas in case it rains.
As well as the wood burners in each of the properties there are electric heaters which make the property suitable for letting all year round.
Outside
To the rear of the property, there is a decked area where you can sit and enjoy the sun. Under cover there is a large table and chairs for outside dining. There is a large pool with plenty of space for sunloungers around it. There is a pizza/bread oven ideal for pizza nights. There is a gas-fired BBQ and paella dish too giving plenty choice for your holiday cooking!
Next to Maison Tom, up a short flight of stairs, is an area called Maison Benjamin which has a large covered space with seating and a ping pong table. This overlooks the pool area. Behind the pool towards the rear of the property, there is a large trampoline set amongst the fruit and walnut trees of the orchard. To the side of the property is a large lawn for games. There is space to play boules on the graveled driveway to the side of the house.
The garden is partially secured by fencing, therefore, we would recommend that you supervise pets and small children.
Local area
Rochechouart is famous for the meteorite that landed there 200 million years ago and created a crater 200km wide. It has an amazing chateau with a blend of medieval and renaissance styles which houses the towns contemporary art museum. Displays include some rare examples of frescoes from the French Renaissance.
St Junien is a large town with a great selection of restaurants and interesting shops. Nearby along the banks of the river Glane is the 'Site Corot' a walking path with benches and picnic spots at frequent intervals. The path has been favoured by many photographers and artists including Jean-Baptiste Corot for whom it is named.
Leisure lake - Videix
A very large leisure lake with a beach where you can swim or hire a boat. Various types are for hire including pedaloes. There are also walks and cycle tracks around the lake and various cafes.
Roman Baths - Chassenon
A short drive away is a large archaeological park with Roman ruins, an arena of ancient games, exhibitions and botanical gardens.
Aventure Parc - Massignac
Here you'll find high ropes course with zip rides for age 6yrs and upwards.
The Martyrs village - Oradour-sur-Glane
The village and it's inhabitants were killed by a retreating German army, it remains as it was left that day after the atrocity and is a moving memorial to the remind us all of the horrors of war.
Le Parc Bellevue - Limoges
An amusement park with children's rides and activities including a ball pool, pedal karts, mini golf, a train ride and bumper boats. There are cafes and picnic areas within the park.
Parc Zoo Reynou in Le Vigen
A 100 hectare, zoological park set around a 19th century castle in an unspoilt & picturesque setting. The park is home to more than 600 animals of 130 species from the five continents also 120 plant species, and ancient trees.
La Grotte de Villars - near Brantome
The caves include over 600 metres of passages and galleries with 17000 year old paintings. There is also a prehistoric garden trail. During the summer months they offer fun family workshops where you can test your hunter skills with propeller shooting or practice prehistoric wall painting.
