The apartment is reached by lift or wide external, covered spiral staircase. The entry lobby has glass doors which close automatically after entering or leaving the building. There is a door phone and entry mechanism to allow access.
The lower level comprises: A double height (4.5 m) L-shaped living room; a fully equipped kitchen (electric hob and oven, fridge-freezer, microwave, toaster, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble-dryer); a large double bedroom; bathroom with large bath/shower & WC and a separate WC.
Large sliding doors in the sitting room open onto a south east-facing terrace (12 square metres). Adjacent trees rise above the complex and provides shade in the late afternoon. The immediate area provides a backcloth of red roofs, gardens and trees across which the Gironde can be seen. The balcony surrounding the terrace is sturdy and firm and of a metallic construction. The kitchen door also opens onto the terrace.
The doors and windows are shuttered which are operated by internal winding mechanisms.
There is a UK Free-View TV, DVD and CD players.
The staircase to the mezzanine has open treads with a banister securely fixed to the wall. It is open plan and a small single room leads from it. The mezzanine sleeps two people comfortably.

The Tourist Office in Royan is opposite the Post Office at the junction of the Route du Front de Mer and the Boulevard de la Republique, just behind the Grande Conche. They have information on all the events taking place during the year in Royan and the surrounding region.
There is a Cara'bus service which allows travel within Royan and to many towns in the Charente Maritime. The bus terminus is located next to the railway station. Bus No 3 goes from La Gare to the Market which is close to rue Pasteur.

The overnight crossing with Brittany Ferries from Portsmouth to St. Malo is followed by a 240 mile drive and takes about five or six hours with rests.

There are a number of flights from the UK to La Rochelle. Car hire is available but there are buses and trains to Royan. However, careful timetable planning is needed if a flight arrives later in the day.
From St.Pancras, the Eurostar connects with the TGV in Lille or Paris. The second connection is in Angouleme for the final leg to Royan. The total time is seven or eight hours. There is a bus that passes close to the Residence Pasteur but after 18.00h a taxi may be necessary. The station is about 1.5 km from the apartment and can be walked with smaller cases.
It is a three minute walk to the Marche Central of Royan from the apartment. This is a spectacular market, built in the shape of a shell, with dozens of stalls selling a huge range of gourmet foodstuffs. The Bar du Marche is a popular venue and there are several other bars and restaurants within a short walk. There are two small supermarkets similar to the Sainsburys local brand. The closest large supermarket is about 800 m away.
Royan has at least seventy restaurants and bars within four to twenty minutes walk from the apartment. Many border the gardens leading to the beach and others are located over- looking the large marina. It can be a perfect place for a beach holiday without a car.
